Dr. Umbach provides individual therapy to clients ranging from ages 8 to 70. She specializes in the treatment of anxiety and related disorders using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or CBT. This therapy is not the "talk therapy" that many are used to seeing on television and movies. This highly effective and widely practiced method utilizes active techniques to challenge thinking patterns and modify unhelpful behaviors. This type of therapy is especially suited for the treatment of hoarding, trichotillomania, and anxieties such as obsessive compulsive disorder, social anxiety, phobias, panic attacks, worry, and generalized anxiety. Many clients also seek Dr. Umbach's help in dealing with depression as well as sleep difficulties and relationship issues.
While the majority of treatment occurs in the offices of Southeast Psych, Dr. Umbach will practice home visits or even "field trips". These off-site sessions are most common in treating hoarding, where becoming familiar with the clients environment is important in the organization process. Therapy may also take place off-site when a client is confronting specific phobias in exposure therapy.
